Interview with Jürgen Unseld
Gebr. Schweitzer Nachfolger GmbH
How did you experience the mood during the fairs?
The mood was in general quite good, although the situation on the market does not look rosy.
We all know: the weather, the political situation, the retail market etc.
We are facing changes and challenges and need to approach these changes according to the customers and their market position.
Which colors are in demand for Fall/Winter 2016/17?
The main colors in our sector were Black, Gray, Brown and Blue – mélange as well as plain-colored.
Along with it, there was a demand for matching prints which were pimped with more intense accent colors.
Besides this, some customers were looking for brilliant colored print motifs.
What kind of articles were required the most from your customers?
Structured fabrics in bicolor and plain-colored mixed with monochrome and simple basic prints (micro patterns).
In addition, there was a request for multicolored on-topic prints always focusing on the respective collection themes.
Which designs and qualities have been strong?
These were graphical motifs, micro patterns, Asian motifs, prints with braided effects, dots and also some ‘real’ check patterns.
How do you see the trend for pocketing?
Cotton qualities are gaining fresh impetus.
PES/CO blends remain because of the versatility and prices.
Structures are getting more important.
We also developed a wide range of individual and customized prints for some labels.
How about classic and subtle designs in comparison to fancy prints?
It depends obviously on the direction of each collection – and of course on the tendencies within the fashion industry.
Are your customers picking several different articles or do they rather stay with one standard article?
Our customers are trying to keep the standard articles as basics which are technically proven qualities. These will be always supplemented with new seasonal colors.
Then there are more and more trendy seasonal inside concepts for pants with prints or variations of structures based on standard qualities.
On top of this, there are specifically developed waistband variations.
A variety of the inside design is nowadays getting more and more important – which is good for us : )
We thank you very much for this interview and wish you a successful and exciting season!
